Scene+ points on your Sobeys receipt, explained

Scene+ scatters lines through a Sobeys receipt rather than keeping them in one place: POINTS EARNED tucked under individual items, an offer or two near the end of the shop, and a summary block at the bottom. None of it carries a dollar amount, and none of it changes what you pay. Here is what each piece is.

What is the POINTS EARNED line under an item?

Points that item earned you, printed directly beneath it. It has no price because it costs nothing and saves nothing at the till.

These sit inline, so a busy receipt can carry several of them scattered down the page rather than grouped together. They are easy to mistake for a charge when you are skimming a column of numbers, which is the main reason this page exists.

What is a Produce or Meat Department Offer?

A small bonus for buying anything at all in that department, printed as its own line:

SOBEYS
example lines
Produce Department Offer5 PTS
Meat Department Offer5 PTS

They are typically tiny, five points, and they appear once per qualifying department rather than once per item. They are not attached to any particular product, which is why they turn up near the end of the item list instead of underneath something.

What is a "Spend $125 get 2500PTS" line?

A threshold offer that paid out. You had loaded or been given an offer that rewards spending a certain amount in one shop, you crossed the threshold, and the receipt records the payout as its own line. Like everything else in this family, it has no dollar value on the receipt.

How does Total Points Earned add up?

It is simply the sum of every points line above it. You can check it on your own receipt, which is the quickest way to confirm you got the offers you expected:

SOBEYS
points lines from one receipt
POINTS EARNED100 PTS
POINTS EARNED500 PTS
Produce Department Offer5 PTS
Total Points Earned605
Scene+ Balance56214

100 + 500 + 5 = 605. If your total is lower than the lines suggest, an offer you expected did not fire, and the receipt is the evidence.

Scene+ Balance underneath is your balance after this trip. Your member card number appears masked to the last few digits.

Do Scene+ points change what I pay?

No, not on any receipt we have seen. Every points line is printed without a dollar amount, and the item lines alone add up to the printed subtotal. Points are recorded alongside the money, not inside it.

The one thing to watch is the separate savings block near the bottom, headed YOUR SAVINGS. That is about discounts, not points, and it restates money already taken off above rather than deducting anything further. The rest of the Sobeys receipt, line by line.

What are Scene+ points worth?

We are not going to tell you, because we cannot prove it from a receipt.

Every other number on this page is checkable against real paper. A redemption is not: no Sobeys receipt in our collection has one on it, so we have never seen how a Scene+ redemption is printed or how it interacts with the total. We could copy a figure from the programme's website, but that is a different kind of claim from the rest of this page and rates change.

If you have a Sobeys receipt where you paid with points, that is the one we are missing, and it would let us write this section properly: support@crowcery.com.

For contrast, we can show it for the other big grocery programme, because one receipt happened to have a card charged exactly $10.00 below the printed total against a redemption of 10,000 points: PC Optimum points on your receipt.

What is the Scotiabank line at the bottom?

An advertisement. A line about earning extra points per dollar with a particular credit card is marketing, not a record of points you missed. Nothing has been withheld from you.

Does Safeway or FreshCo print it the same way?

They are Empire banners on the same programme and the same receipt format, so the points lines should look the same. Should, because our reading here comes from Sobeys receipts: we have no Safeway or FreshCo receipt with a points block that we have actually worked through. Treat the Sobeys detail as checked and the rest as a reasonable expectation.

How confident are we here? This page comes from 18 Sobeys receipts, mostly Nova Scotia with a couple from New Brunswick and one from Ontario. The arithmetic shown is verified against real receipts. What we have not seen, and so do not describe: any Scene+ redemption, points expiry, and how the block looks when an offer only partly qualifies. Sobeys and Scene+ can change layouts and rates at any time. Corrections and counter-examples welcome at support@crowcery.com.
